Hopefully this is in the right slot.If not sincere apologies.

Has anyone had personal experience of FS Moving Platform.

They are about £6K so its a lot of money so the effect of the
platform has got to be as real asit gets.

Many thanks

Ian.

My only "experience" with a motion platform was with Bob Sidwick's (RC Simmulations) unit at the FS show last year at the Helicopter Museum, Weston Super Mare.

This year the (same) event will be 15/16 May - same venue.

That might be your best option to look and try before you buy Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have to say that "flying" a Spitfire and following Bob's instructions to climb, level-out, dive then pull up (on his instruction) - the feeling was pretty ORSUMMM Shocked Shocked Shocked
Bob's system on the day consisted of the platform, Spitfire "stick", CH Pedals and TripleHead2Go utilising three screens plus the PC of course!

I shall be there on the Saturday - maybe will have another go Grin

Dear Ken

Thanks for reply.Am going to see Bob in the near future.
I also seem to recall reading that the PILOT CHAIR[ £300]was a very suitable addon to the platform.

But what has  the PILOT CHAIR have for £300!!.

There is a problem in the fact that i have a wife./Now while it is relatively easy to smuggle a G0Flight module
into the house its more difficult with a motion platform!!!

However using the old excuse of my illness [Im not proud]and you are a long time dead she was very supportive. This i thought was going to be easier than I thought.

However in the middle of the TV football match the female species raised its true head.It was pointed out that for
£6k we could have a nice holiday in New Zealand..after all we are a long time dead.Weve only just has a holiday in Cyprus..well it was 4 years ago!!
I will keep you advised of the final outcome.Happy landings Ian Smith   EGBW  G_MERC

I also seem to recall reading that the PILOT CHAIR[ £300]was a very suitable addon to the platform.

But what has  the PILOT CHAIR have for £300!!....Not a lot! It was a simple upholstered chair with a few brackets where the Yoke etc could be secured plus a platform for a keyboard (as far as I remember - Terry may have some additional information as he received one from the supplier I seem to remember)[/size]

There is a problem in the fact that i have a wife./Now while it is relatively easy to smuggle a G0Flight module
into the house its more difficult with a motion platform!!!....Well, she would need to give you a hand to carry it upstairs - or wherever Roll Eyes

I will keep you advised of the final outcome....you have my undivided attention - I need to see what works Grin

I found the Pilot Seat to be very useful, but I didn't pay for it as First Class Simulations (www.firstclass-simulations.com) gave it to me for our Flight Sim and Aviation Shows.
I sold it last March through our forum and donated the money to charity.
This is a photo of how I used it. I stuck the Saitek Yoke to it with Velcro, which made it easier to get in and out of it.
(There's a few more on my 737NG Cockpit Project pages on our website)

This is a promo photo of how it can be used

Dear Ken and All

Went to Bobs at Bristol to try out the D Box motion platform.

As Simon Cowell would say..its okay but didnot have the X factor
.THIS IS OF COURSE MY OPINION AND SUSPECT OTHERS WOULD HAVE DIFFERING VIEWS>>

The equipment does not come with a purpose fit base and this I find amazing as we are talking about £6k.

However Bob in his usual helpful way said he would make and fit a base. But with a S/H seat the price would be
£6150.Ironically the money was not a problem but I really found the platform very dissapointing especially for the
selling price.

Needless to say I didnot leave empty handed..purchased 3 more GoFlight modules together with the 3x2"module rack. This now joins the Goflight console so I am free of the mouse+keyboard.
Also purhased CH Eclipse Yoke replacing the Saitek yoke.Ch in my view much better.Regards Ian Smith

Hi Ken

Thanks for your interest re Motion platform.

You will have a long journey from York to Weston!!

Not sure whether I will go yet.

I seem to have reached saturation point with FS addons etc[that is a very silly statement to make!!]

The only item now that interests me is the Matrox 2 Go system.

The problem is I have recently purchased a NEC multiSync EA 26 monitor and have a NEC opticlear
multisync 20WGX monitor[this has an incredible clear picture, but they dont make this monitor
anymore!!!

Having 3 different size monitors may not work properly. Also obsessed by Frame rate hits!!
Have a good day at Weston and dont take the plastic!!!   Ian Smith

Only just opened this post..................
We had already left York [08:30] to go to Devon (Richard Bassett's place) - then travelled back up to WSM on the Saturday morning.
I have to say that this year the Helicopter Museum was CLEAN and the floor appeared to have been buffed! HUGE improvement on last year Grin

Pity we missed each other - I was the one with the "saintly" expression and clutching my ONE purchase - Aerosoft's Maldives.
I spent 14-months in the Maldives (RAF Gan) and am very pleased with the software although it has to be said that Gan appears to have more trees than it ever had in my time there Wink The Addu Atoll (Gan is the most southern island and in this atoll) is correct and I remember spending many hours canoeing round the islands on the inner lagoon.

With regard to your "cunning plan"...........bordering on the "brilliant" Shocked
When we went to the Devon meeting (first time) I had offered to take 'er indoors to the Eden Project that she had often expressed an interest in visiting..........Bingo!
Since then she has had outings to Dartmouth, Brixham, Torquay, Plymouth, Exeter, Totnes..........if she ever learns to read a map I'll be in trouble Cry

Hope your other half enjoyed the day and that you manage to pacify the bank manager Roll Eyes
